How to use XCsoar, and roast dinner.

Come and get some hands-on practice using XCSoar to plan and execute a cross-country task. For those not familiar with XCsoar gliding software visit https://www.xcsoar.org/

Eat some great food with fellow pilots afterwards, all for just $15.

XCSoar session led by Ailsa McMillan - Experience from flying at 4 World Championship Events (Placed 5th at WWGC2017), Australian 20m 100km FAI speed triangle record holder.

Bring your preferred device already loaded with XCSoar.  

Genius Bar open to help anyone needing help to get the correct turnpoint and profile files loaded into their device.  

Or, try to do this yourself in advance by using the turnpoint file provided.  

Ailsa will lead a practical session where attendees will - on their own device:

  • Set basic flight parameters
  • Set task by entering turnpoints
  • Check task entered matches the one provided
  • Fly the task (using simulation mode)
  • Follow through all flight phases
  • Identify and note key parameters to monitor during final glide
  • Decision making
  • Q & A
